April, in Wonderland?

OK, so I convinced Toby to see Alice in Wonderland today,even though I had read a few bad reviews AND his client this morning said it was no good. I on the other hand,thought it was fabulous. Just the cinematography alone was brilliant. Plus the makeup and costumes! just appreciating those alone were enough for me! BUT the story was quiet fantastic, a young girl of 19, proposed to, by a Lord, a life of luxury indeed ahead of her, BUT she walks away, yes, there is a choice here ladies, and she attempts to escape life's scrutiny, and there falls into the rabbits hole, while chasing the inevitable "greener pasture" aka white rabbit. Some of the beloved characters are there, the Chesire cat, the hookah smoking caterpillar of course, the mad hatter, the queen, and some new characters, who fits ever so well, the prettier sister who everyone loves. See all of the hidden lessons here I am sure. Now, I am sure the 6 year old next to me did not see these lesson..., but neither did the 30 year old husband next to me...
The story moves onto to Alice finding herself again and being reminded that she was once brilliant and strong, I am sure we have all "lost" ourselves a time or two in life, and finding her way to slay the evilness of the world, and show that she is a powerful, strong woman. Befriending the outcasts of course, and finding those friendships we might often overlook in life. And then, the red queen, surrounded by people who desire to the greatest depths to be accepted by her, making themselves unusual and unique, to fit into what she desires to surround herself with. We are all guilty of that one. I do so love that she still screams "off with their head" b/c really, haven't we all lost our head a time or two?
She says no to the Lord of course and makes her own choices to chose that other path, and keep her independence. The whole movie, of course being about choices, and fighting for who we are, being adventurous in life, and being open minded.
I thought it was a fabulous film, and really don't know why everyone else does not see it too....

I've seen warmer days...

So, I am sucking at this blogging thing, really. But I will try harder, but so many things happen, I move past them so fast, I feel like I forgot to blog. So, it is Feb. 28th, in Omaha and still about 20 degrees. The snow is piled higher than cars in places, which makes it a little dangerous in parking lots. The sun is out, so that is quite lovely, but about this time, I start to get a little crazy for some warmth. I think about Houston, alot, this time of year. I love more than anything to sit outside and eat, and people watch. Now, I sit indoors, and stare outside, pretending it is warm. I have been convinced a couple of times this year, that I had frost bite...
really, I am pretty sure I did have some one time. As a Southerner, you have no concept of how short of time it takes to get frostbite! Every year I say I am going to visit Houston during this time, so I can get some warmth and sit outside and soak up the heat. I have not been back since January of 2008...
Happy thoughts for 2010 - Toby's brother is getting married in Chicago in October, and Chicago rocks! Yiippeee! AND part traditional Vietnamese wedding, so lots of yummy food!
Seeing my niece this summer and taking her to our zoo - yeah!!! Adorable!!!

Finger crossed that March brings warmer temps and the snow forts melt away!

Cross Country Golf?

Courtney and I decided to go cross country skiing last Saturday, there was a class at UNO, here in Omaha, so we hopped on it! 4.5 hours of pure bliss! It was a great time, and we worked up a sweat,so went to Corkscrew afterwards to cool off ;)
We plan on skiing again, maybe not at the golf course this time though...

Testicle Festival and Toby's quotes

We planned Sunday to be a "date" Sunday...starting off with Belgian waffles, coffee, and love ;) It turned to a little yelling, Belgian waffles and cleaning!!! WTF. So, by 2pm, we wrapped up the cleaning, and headed off to Ashland, NE, a few miles outside of Omaha. We were headed to a cute little sandwich/ice cream shop, and a gallery of dead animals...SO here are a few things Toby said along the way..

Toby: oh look, it is sure filling up now

April:what?

Toby: the gravel pit. blah blah blah. Man, I really want one of those.

April: what?

Toby: a gravel pit.it would be so cool to have one. blah blah. It pays for your land itself. blah blah blah.

April: (inside my head) "what is wrong with him? oh look, how frozen the river is. I wonder how the turtles survive?"

We arrive in Ashland. Look what I saw!

Wow - really??? A testicle festival?? I looked it up and it is in June!

Conversation later in bar-b-que place with Toby...

April: I can't believe there is a Testicle Festival here!

Toby: oh yeah, I used to eat the shit out of them in college

April: hmmm, really? gross.

Toby: oh yeah, there was this place in Lincoln that had them buffet style. You could get them grilled, sauteed, covered in gravy!

Darn, sandwich place stopped serving lunch at 2:30pm. So headed to delicious bar-b-que place, after checking out the Willow Point Gallery in Ashland.

On the way home...Toby is driving

Toby: Look peep, your car is going 100 mph!!!

April: seriously?! wtf? my car is like 11 years old. What is wrong with you?

Toby: OMG - I am SO hungry, I need ice cream, or like a chocolate donut.

April: No, you just ate a giant t-bone. eat some berries.

A nice ending to an ever interesting 'date' by April & Toby. I often say, its a good thing this is NOT our first date ;) With a smile on my face and laughing always on the inside, I go to bed. And Monday ends with Toby cooking dinner, steak...and watching the Bachelor together, with only minimal comments (from him of course) about how slutty everyone is. And he cannot believe "that hideous blue dress Cori is wearing"

hehehehehe.

To blog or not to blog?

So, I finally decided to "blog" not b/c I have a very exciting life, (well, sometimes...)but my everyday interactions with my co workers, and husband are quite entertaining. And I could not help but share my husbands, and co workers constant quest for gas station food, and eating as cheaply as possible, without becoming future "Biggest Loser" contestants. Plus, sometimes I have to repeat my ridiculous stories mulitple time,s and perhaps save my voice and just write it, and even document with pictures to prove that since moving to the Midwest, by choice, I might add, life has taken an interesting, fun, and somewhat odd turn. Join me on my quest through the "pit" at my job, my new husband, my adventurous best friend co worker, and my eternal efforts to stay rooted to my fellow Texans.
